Set of 3 Codd Bottle marbles

A Codd bottle is a type of bottle used for carbonated drinks. It has a unique closing design based on a glass marble which is held against a rubber seal, which sits within a recess in the lip. These bottles were first made in 1872 by british drinks maker Hiram Codd of Camberwell.

These codd marbles were picked by hand on the North East of England beaches - the marbles ending up on the North Sea many many years ago when residents and tourists to North East coastal resorts threw bottles into the sea.

I have included a photo of how the marbles look in vintage bottles.

Photos are taken with a 5p piece which is almost identical to a US dime.
